1. Classify by control method
Mechanical throttle valve
The structure is simple and the cost is low, but it cannot implement complex control strategies such as traction control and cruise control.
Commonly seen in older naturally aspirated engines (such as the early Volkswagen EA113 series).
Electronic throttle valve (ETC)
Supports multiple driving modes (sport/economy/comfort), cruise control, automatic start stop, and other functions.
Typical applications: Modern turbocharged engines (such as Honda L15B, Toyota Dynamic Force).
2. Classify by structural form
Butterfly shaped throttle valve
The blades are butterfly shaped with continuously adjustable opening, suitable for most gasoline engines.
Advantages: Compact structure, fast response; Disadvantage: There is significant airflow disturbance when the opening is low.
Cylindrical throttle valve
Cylindrical valve body for smoother airflow, commonly used in high-performance engines or diesel engines.
Advantages: Reduce intake resistance; Disadvantages: High cost and large size.
